Caria (en griego antiguo, Καρία, Karía) fue una antigua región histórica situada al sudoeste de la actual Turquía. Fue incorporada en el 545 a. C. al antiguo imperio aqueménida como la satrapía de Karkâ. Su capital fue Halicarnassos (actual Bodrum), la cual tiene origen Luvitas etimológicamente. En la antigüedad, los carios fueron famosos mercenarios.

She was of Carian-Greek ethnicity by her father Lygdamis I, and half- Cretan by her mother.
