From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Kingston is a small city in Ulster County, New York. It is the county seat of Ulster County. It is 91 miles (146 km) north of New York City and 59 miles (95 km) south of Albany. The city's metropolitan area is grouped with the New York metropolitan area by the United States Census Bureau.

In 1777, the first state capital of the independent New York State was established at Kingston. The official records of Ulster County were removed to safety to a stone house in Kerhonksonwhen it became evident that the British would burn Kingston. In 1797, parts of Otsegoand Ulster Counties were split off to create Delaware County.
