    Opava (německy Troppau, slezskoněmecky Tropp, polsky Opawa, slezsky Uopawa/Uopava, latinsky Opavia/Oppavia) je statutární město v okrese Opava v Moravskoslezském kraji. Leží v Opavské pahorkatině na řece Opavě a žije zde přibližně 55 tisíc obyvatel. Původně byla centrem Opavského knížectví a v letech 1742 až 1928 hlavním městem rakouského, resp. českého Slezska se zemskými úřady.

On April 22 1945, Opava was liberated by the Soviet Red Army at the cost of enormous war damage.
