Greek is not a dead language. Greek is spoken by a whole country. Although Latin isn’t spoken natively by anyone anymore, it is still used by the clergy in the Vatican City State. I’m not sure what makes a language dead, but I do know for a fact that any reasonable definition of dead languages would not make Greek dead.

Although ancient Greek is considered to be a dead language, in a sense that it isn’t spoken anymore, modern Greek is definitely not. Think of it as Latin and Italian. It just has so much history that it has been separated into different names/‘languages’ from the modern perspective because the language has changed.
