The Volga Tatars or simply referred to as Tatars are a Turkic ethnic group native to the Volga-Ural region of Russia. They are subdivided into various subgroups. Volga Tatars are Russia's second-largest ethnicity after the Russians.[13] They compose 53% of the population of Tatarstan and 25% of the population of Bashkortostan.

Tatars refer to a number of Turkic -speaking peoples, [7] which include (but are not limited to) the Volga Tatars, Lipka Tatars, Siberian Tatars. But do not include the Crimean Tatars.
