State atheism is no better than any other kind of state sponsored belief system. Any time a government is given a mandate to promote a spiritual ideal (and by extension discourage belief in others) then it's just a recipe for fascism. It doesn't have anything to do with the atheism part of the equation, it has to do with the nature of government.
