Andorra was established as part of Charlemagne's Marca Hispanica and its name may derive from Arabic ad-Darra (الدرا, "the Forest") or Navarro-Aragonese andurrial ("scrubland"). One folk etymology holds that it derives from the Biblical Endor , a name bestowed by Louis le Debonnaire after defeating the Moors in the "wild valleys of Hell".
