The mainstream view is that Vietnamese is Austroasiatic but has had significant influence due to being part of the Mainland Southeast Asia linguistic area, a sprachbund often called the "Sinosphere" due to the Sinitic influence on unrelated languages. Under this view, Vietnamese would not be considered a creole or mixed language.
