The Indus civilisation, also known as the Indus valley civilization or the Harappan civilization, was the Indian subcontinent's first known urban society. The civilisation's nuclear dates appear to be about 2500–1700 bce, however, the southern sites may have persisted beyond the 2nd millennium bce.

Chanhu-daro is an archaeological site belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization. The site is located 130 kilometers (81 mi) south of Mohenjo-daro, in Sindh, Pakistan. The settlement was inhabited between 4000 and 1700 BCE, and is considered to have been a centre for manufacturing carnelian beads.
