There are dialects spoken in Italy, in the sense that they derive from Latin just like Italian does. The influences, however, are regional and depend on history, politics, and geography. Neapolitan, for example, has a lot of Spanish and French influence, but there is also some Greek. Sicilian has some Spanish, Arabic and Greek.
