The prevalent term was / is Barbarian Invasions. It covers the invasions by much less advanced peoples into Europe during the end of the Roman Empire and during the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire. The translation of the German 'Völkerwanderung' into English does not change anything. I see this argument has been going for a while. Time to change the title?
