As a son of the Greek God Zeus and Danae, Perseus was a demigod, performing large than life deeds. Some of his feats included slaying a sea monster sent by Poseidon, freeing Andromeda, and killing the Medusa.

According to tradition, Mycenae was founded by Perseus 1 when, after delivering Andromeda, he became king in Tiryns. Origin of the name "Mycenae" Antinous 2 , one of the SUITORS OF PENELOPE , recalled that the city of Mycenae was named after Mycene, a beauty of former times, daughter of the river god Inachus and mother of the all-seeing Argus 1 .

Of all the myths from the Greek mainland, it has the most numerous and evident relations with Crete and the Minoan world, so that there cannot be any reasonable doubt that it goes back into the Mycenaean age and moreover to that early part of this age in which Crete and Cnossus still flourished and were powerful.

Mycenae. Mycenae (Μυκήνες) is one of the most important archaeological sites of Greece. The fortified citadel is nested over the fertile plain of Argolis near the seashore in the northeast Peloponnese. Mycenae is the largest and most important center of the civilization that was named "Mycenaean" after this very citadel.

Also, Agamemnon is sometimes referred to as "king of Mycenae, rich in gold", and the only mention of Mycenae in the Odyssey is this one: Seven years he reigned over Mycenae, rich in gold , after slaying the son of Atreus, and the people were subdued under him; but in the eighth came as his bane the goodly Orestes back from Athens, and slew his father's murderer.
