Dec 17, 2020 · The history of Turkish civilization has more than 4000 years. The first peoples known as “Turks” were reputed to inhabit the region of central Asia around 2000 BC. Then, these nomadic populations established several states and empires in various places in the territory of Europe and Asia.

With some exceptions, notably in the European part of Turkey and in the Volga region, the Turkic peoples live in Asia. Their most important cultural link, aside from history and language, is with Islam, for, with the exception of the Sakha (Yakut) of eastern Siberia and the Chuvash of the Volga region of Russia, the vast majority of Turkic peoples are Muslim.

Turkish Origins The first historical references to the Turks appear in Chinese records of about 2000 BC. These records refer to tribes called the Hsiung-nu, an early form of the Western term Hun , who lived in an area bounded by the Altai Mountains, Lake Baikal, and the northern edge of the Gobi Desert and are believed to have been the ancestors of the Turks.

The Turks were a race in Asia that made a living from animal husbandry, rode horses very well, and led a nomadic life. Those who emigrated to Anatolia later moved to settled life. The real history of the Turks begins with the arrival of Turkish tribal groups in Western Asia. Since the 5th century AD, Turkish tribes had migrated from Southern Siberia to Central Asia and from there to Eastern Europe (Northern Caucasus foothills, Volga region).
