WHO WERE THE PHILISTINES? G. BONFANTE IN 1914 Jacobsohn, in BPhW. 34, p. 983, proposed an interpretation of the name of the Philistines which was accepted by Kretschmer in 1935 (Glotta 24, p. 35 f.). This in-terpretation seems evident to me, and, having the authority of two such scholars, should be considered as definitive.
