Sometimes in modern languages we use the ““Vulgar “ root for everyday communication and the classical one for high level discussions ( for example to say Horse the Romance languages use the root “caball” but for scientific classification is still used the classical rood “equ.”). For example, French jeudi ("Thursday") < Old French juesdi < Vulgar Latin "jovis diēs"; Spanish es menester ("it is necessary") < "est ministeri"; and Italian terremoto ("earthquake") < "terrae motu" as well as names like Paoli, Pieri.

Vulgar Latin: ´Jacọmọs ´lẹvrọ a ´ppatre ´dọnat.—James is giving a/the book to his father. Just as in the disappearing dative case, colloquial Latin sometimes replaced the disappearing genitive case with the preposition de followed by the ablative. Aside from the numerous inscriptions found throughout the empire, there is no shortage of texts in Vulgar Latin. One of the first is the so-called Appendix Probi (3rd–4th centuries ce; “Appendix to Probus [’s Grammar]”), which lists correct and incorrect forms of 227 words, probably as an orthographic aid to scribes.
