Sutton Hoo may be the burial site of Redwald, a powerful Saxon king who ruled East Anglia and possibly some areas farther north in the late 500s and early 600s. He died in about 616 ce. Redwald was the first East Anglian king to pay attention to Christianity. He may have converted to the new religion, as all his successors were Christian.
