Alfred Thayer Mahan (September 27, 1840–December 1, 1914) was a US Navy flag officer, geostrategist, and historian. His most prominent work, The Influence of Sea Power Upon History, 1660–1783 , had a widespread impact on navies around the world.

Because Alfred Thayer Mahan was the architect of the American Age of Imperialism and had a huge influence on many people but especially Theodore Roosevelt. Mahan was an instructor at the Naval Academy at Annapolis and wrote the book, “The Significance of Sea Power Upon History, 1660–1783”.
