    I'm from Turkey and we had learned in HS that Altaic (also Ural-Altaic, including Japanese and Korean) were actual language families. I had heard before that Ural-Altaic was largely discredited, but I also learned today that even Altaic is discredited now and Turkic and Mongolian are thought as separate language families.
