15/08/2014 · from EU4 wiki: The result of claiming the throne depends on whether or not the current ruler dies before producing an heir, and on your prestige. If you or the target country with no heir has rivals with higher prestige, they can start succession war.

It's clear that this war is a big model for succession wars in EU4, as the outcome seems to be based off it: if the PU leader wins the war, he keeps the PU, but if the challenger wins, no one gets a PU (as what would've happened/did happen (respectively) in this war and to a certain extent the similar War of the Austrian Succession).

    • At the start of the game, Burgundy begins with Charles I de Bourgogne as its heir. If he manages to ascend to the throne, Burgundy will get a hidden modifier that severely (but not entirely) reduces their chances of getting a new heir and even disables the option to introduce a new heirif you have the DLC that enables it. Once Charles I has ascended the throne and eventually died, th…

Do succession wars happen between allies?
On the other hand, historically succesion wars did happen between allies that both claimed a throne... As spain it isn't that bad, but usually when you inherit a country as a small minor and you have to fight France or Austria for it, you just don't want the PU

How do you prevent an impending succession war?
If you mean how do you prevent an impending succession war (i.e. personal union on monarch death), that’s a little more complicated and much more luck based. Broadly speaking, if you have an heir then no one is going to PU you. So, if you get an event that offers you a chance at an heir take it and the warning will disappear.

Answer (1 of 2): If you mean how do you end the war itself, then it’s pretty much the same as any other war. Get your warscore up to the point where the enemy will accept whatever peace deal you want then send a peace deal. If you’re the defender that’s utterly standard. If …

If no country is willing to contest the personal union, the target country will fall under a personal union of the new senior partner peacefully. If a succession war ensues, the attacker, if successful, can enforce a union over the junior partner OR demand that the senior partner release the target country." http://eu4.paradoxwikis.com/Personal_union

  9. Who will be the aggressor in this succession war ...

    https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/who...

18/09/2019 · Further to what Bastardoo stated - when the UI says succession war between X and Y - what will actually happen if the ruler dies is that X will immediately get the PU (whether you want it or not) and Y will be given the opportunity to contest it. If Y contests it means they declare a war on X as the aggressor.

  10. Possible Succession War event: Who are my allies? : eu4

    https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/epk91e/...

Yes, the common allies join the defender, which is the one who gets the Union legally - so Portugal (sometimes though in the past, they used to bug, and would join the call they received first, I'm not sure if that's been fixed). Once the war starts, you can call in your other allies, provided you have enough favours, or they can be promised land.
