https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/who...18/09/2019 · Further to what Bastardoo stated - when the UI says succession war between X and Y - what will actually happen if the ruler dies is that X will immediately get the PU (whether you want it or not) and Y will be given the opportunity to contest it. If Y contests it means they declare a war on X as the aggressor.

https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/epk91e/...Yes, the common allies join the defender, which is the one who gets the Union legally - so Portugal (sometimes though in the past, they used to bug, and would join the call they received first, I'm not sure if that's been fixed). Once the war starts, you can call in your other allies, provided you have enough favours, or they can be promised land.
