The historians of antiquity called them the Saka. For many centuries the land of the Saka was the scene of bloody, devastating wars. And many conquerors had encroached on that land.

Kazakhstan is believed to have been inhabited as early as the Stone Age, a prehistoric period characterized by the use of stone tools. It was only in the beginning of the 15th century when Kazakh identity came into being and was consolidated into the culture and language of the Kazakhs in the 16th century.

Kazakhstan declares independence from the Soviet Union and joins the Commonwealth of Independent States. 1992. Kazakhstan is admitted into the United Nations and the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. 1995. A pact is signed with Russia for economic and military cooperation. 1997.

Starting from the 4 th century up to the beginning of the 13 th century, the territory of Kazakhstan was the seat of West-Turkic, Tyurgesh, Karluk Kaganates, of the state made by the Oguz, Karakhanides, Kimeks and Kypchaks. All of them successively replaced one another right up to the Mongol invasion.
