    Sanskrit was certainly written for perhaps a couple centuries prior to this, and the Vedas were transmitted orally for centuries earlier, but this is the earliest record that has survived. The oldest lengthy writing in Sanskrit is the Junagadh inscription, which recounts local construction work as well as the history of those involved. Once again, it’s written in Brahmi, and dates to 150 AD or so.
