About T. C. Cannon. Tommy (T.C.) Cannon was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, to a Kiowa father and a Caddo mother. He was given the name Pai-doung-u-day, which translates into "One Who Stands In The Sun," His early life was spent near the Zoltone springs in Southern Oklahoma. As a teenager the family moved to the Gracemount area where he attended the local high school.

Kiowa/Caddo artist T.C. Cannon, born Tommy Wayne Cannon, grew up in an Oklahoma farming community where they were the only Native American family in the town. Cannon started making art from a young age, but his artistic approach developed during his education at the newly-formed Institute for American Indian Art in Santa Fe in 1964-66.

Born in 1946 as Tommy Wayne Cannon, “T.C.” and his sister, now Joyce Cannon Yi, were raised by their Kiowa father and Caddo mother in small towns in southwestern Oklahoma.
