  1. The Ediacaran marks the first appearance of widespread multicellular fauna following the end of Snowball Earth glaciation events, the so-called Ediacaran biota, which is represented by now-extinct relatively simple animal phyla such as Proarticulata (bilaterians with articulation including Dickinsonia and Spriggina), Petalonamae (sea pen -like animals including Charnia), Medusoids (radial-shaped animals including Cyclomedusa) and Trilobozoa (animals with tri-radial symmetry including Tribrachidium).

    What is the Ediacaran fauna?
The Ediacaran fauna is a group of fossil remains of uncertain ancestry that survived for a short time interval just before the Cambrian (Figure 6.21).

How many Ediacaran species are there?
From the widespread fossil record, some 31 Ediacaran species have been described including forms that may be ancestral to flatworms, coelenterates, annelids, soft-bodied arthropods, and soft-bodied echinoderms. The most convincing evidence for Neoproterozoic animals comes from trace fossils associated with the Ediacaran fauna.

    What is Ediacaran biota?
The Ediacaran ( /ˌiːdiˈækərən/; formerly Vendian) biota consisted of enigmatic tubular and frond-shaped, mostly sessile organisms that lived during the Ediacaran Period (ca. 635–542 Mya ). Trace fossils of these organisms have been found worldwide, and represent the earliest known complex multicellular organisms.

What are the characteristics of the Ediacaran period?
The fossil record from the Ediacaran Period is sparse, as more easily fossilized hard-shelled animals had yet to evolve. The Ediacaran biota include the oldest definite multicellular organisms (with specialized tissues), the most common types of which resemble segmented worms, fronds, disks, or immobile bags. Auroralumina was a cnidarian. [31] [32]

The Ediacaran biota is a taxonomic period classification that consists of all life forms that were present on Earth during the Ediacaran Period (c. 635–538.8 Mya). These were composed of enigmatic tubular and frond-shaped, mostly sessile, organisms. Trace fossils of these organisms have been found worldwide, and represent the earliest known complex multicellular organisms.
