03/03/2009 · The Linear B Tablets interpreted. From archaeological context, Linear B was known to be the writing of the Mycenaeans. But before 1952 no-one knew who the Mycenaeans were. Archaeology had revealed a rich Late Bronze Age culture of c.1600-1100 BC, but the language and ethnicity of its creators remained uncertain.

Linear B. Linear B is the name for the late Minoan script which was first found on clay tablets and sealings in the second palace at Knossos on Crete. These early tablets survived because they were baked in the fire which burned down the palace.

Giant Cyclopean Terrace Eight years of excavations ending in late 2016 unearthed more of an enormous building that the archaeologist labeled the Cyclopean Terrace, which dominates the entire site.

The third set of tablets, dating from 1450 to 1375 b.c., bore a script which seemed to be a refinement of Linear A, and hence called Linear B. Because most of the tablets were Linear B, and because it was the most recent script, Sir Arthur and other archaeologists believed that Linear B gave them their best chance of decipherment.

This is where other tablets in the set can perhaps be of help; on FP(1) 1, which records the distributions for a different month, the amount of oil sent to Dikte is S 1 (or 9.6 liters).
