Galician (Galician: Galego) is a modern language that is spoken in Galicia, a region of Spain in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula. Galician is closely related to Portuguese because they split from the same language, which is now called Galician-Portuguese or Medieval Galician.

The language is familiar to Portugese and many people experience the language as a mixture between Spanish and Portugese. Nevertheless, the Galician language originates back to the Middle Ages. Nowadays it’s all around in Galicia. It’s an official local language.

Galego, as it is known in Galician, is an Indo-European language belonging to the Romance branch of languages. As the native language of Galicia, it is spoken by 2.7 million inhabitants in Galicia, in regions bordering Galicia, and in Galician diaspora resulting from immigration, particularly in Latin America and Europe.

Galician is a Romance language spoken in Galicia (north western Spain). It’s closely related to Spanish, and even more to Portuguese. Although I don’t master this language, I can read it rather easily since I do speak Spanish. Gaelic is a Celtic language, and still spoken in two variants: in Ireland and in Scotland.
