Note character and string data are themselves numeric/digital so no need to open up that can of worms nor do you need to do all those sign/unsign business....

For 16 bit it's 65,536 different values, for 24 bit it's and for 32 bit it's a really big number (2 to the power of 32). For ultra-high-dynamic-range recording, 32 - bit float is an ideal recording format.

08/05/2015 · Here’s a screen shot of the original 32 bit file opened in PS. Then here’s the dropdown save list but JPEG isn’t an option when starting with a 32 bit tiff. If I try to rename the file and save as - I have to choose a bit mode and when choosing 16 - I get a pop-up informing me some tiff readers don’t support 16 bit floating point values.

Correction: only 24 bit color and 32 bit color are 8 bits / channel. 8 bit color and 16 bit are lower (usually indexed) color formats.
