National Mall and Memorial Parks is an administrative unit of the National Park Service encompassing many national memorials and other areas in Washington, D.C. Federally owned and administered parks in the capital area date back to 1790, some of the oldest in the United States. In 1933, they were transferred to the control of the National Park Service. These parks were known as the National Capital Parks from their inception until 1965. The NPS now operates multiple park groupings in the D.C. area, including National Capital Parks-East, Rock Creek Park, President's Park, and George Washington Memorial Parkway. National Mall and Memorial Parks also provides technical assistance for the United States Navy Memorial.

This is just a peaceful place. Love all of the grass and the views. We rode bicycles at night along the mall to all of the monuments. It was a great experience. Full review by beckybQ1439JP

Hello! My children and I will be spending time walking around the National Mall in August. Are there any locker rentals, particularly around the US Capitol Building? I will be carrying a backpack-cooler with bottled waters for my kids, but no liquids - not even sealed water bottles - are allowed inside the US Capitol Building nor it's coat check areas. Thank you!

Just wanted to bring closure to this thread. We were unable to locate any locker rentals within the National Mall. So for our time there, I bought a "folding daypack" (a backpack that weighs just a few ounces). It was enough to carry an umbrella, ponchos in case of rain, masks (in case were asked to mask-up for COVID), empty water bottles (each bottle and lid were marked with the kid's name on them), and maps. Overall, the pack was so light it was like not carrying anything at all. The kids were happy to strap it on, which enabled me to access the maps at will. There were water fountains at the Library of Congress, but you weren't allowed to drink directly out of them; they are for filling water bottles only. There were water fountains at the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and near the Vietnam Wall but all were out-of-order. There were "street vendors" selling bottled water out of coolers at the Washington Monument ($1) and at the Lincoln Memorial ($2). They also had Gatorade for higher cost ($3/$4)

Also, make sure you have access to internet to unlock the scooters. You'll also need to upload your Driver's licence for identification when you first download the app. We used 'Spin' and they were great but there are plenty of others.

I did not see any vendors at the National Mall. Everything is within walking distance so I am sure there is some place nearby.
