El Intel 80286 [1] (llamado oficialmente iAPX 286, también conocido como i286 o 286) es un microprocesador de 16 bits de la familia x86, que fue lanzado al mercado por Intel el 1 de febrero de 1982. Cuenta con 134.000 transistores. Al igual que su primo contemporáneo, el 80186, puede ejecutar correctamente la mayor parte del software escrito para el Intel 8086 y el Intel 8088. [2]

The AT is IBM PC compatible, with the most significant difference being a move to the 80286 processor from the 8088 processor of prior models. Like the IBM PC, the AT supported an optional math co-processor chip, the Intel 80287, for faster execution of floating point operations.
