Der Alabaster (auch Alabastergips und lateinisch Alabastrum ) ist eine sehr häufig vorkommende, mikrokristalline Varietät des Minerals Gips. Chemisch gesehen handelt es sich beim Alabaster also um ein wasserhaltiges Calciumsulfat mit der chemischen Zusammensetzung Ca[SO4]·2H2O.
