    Analytic number theory - Wikipedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analytic_number_theory

In mathematics, analytic number theory is a branch of number theory that uses methods from mathematical analysis to solve problems about the integers. It is often said to have begun with Peter Gustav Lejeune Dirichlet's 1837 introduction of Dirichlet L-functions to give the first proof of

  2. Abstract analytic number theory - Wikipedia

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abstract_analytic_number_theory

Abstract analytic number theory is a branch of mathematics which takes the ideas and techniques of classical analytic number theory and applies them to a variety of different mathematical fields. The classical prime number theorem serves as a prototypical example, and the emphasis is on abstract asymptotic distribution results. The theory was invented and developed by mathematicians such as John Knopfmacher and Arne Beurling in the twentieth century.

    • The theory of numbers comprises several classical functions: ϕ(n) — the number of numbers not exceeding n and mutually prime with n (the Euler function); τ(n) — the number of divisors of n; μ(n) — the Möbius function; Λ(n) — the Mangoldt function, etc. Even though all these functions behave fairly "irregularly" , their average values can properly be studied. The average value of a f…

(mathematics, number theory) A branch of number theory in which suitable ideas and techniques from analytic number theory are generalised and applied to a variety of mathematical fields. The prime number theorem serves as a prototypical example of an idea generalised via abstract analytic number theory and adapted to other fields; the emphasis is on results pertaining to …
