Bedřich Smetana (/ ˌ b ɛ d ər ʒ ɪ x ˈ s m ɛ t ə n ə / BED-ər-zhikh SMET-ə-nə, Czech: [ˈbɛdr̝ɪx ˈsmɛtana] (); 2 March 1824 – 12 May 1884) was a Czech composer who pioneered the development of a musical style that became closely identified with his people's aspirations to a cultural and political "revival."He has been regarded in his homeland as the father of Czech music.

Mein Vaterland (tschechisch Má vlast) JB 1:112 ist ein Zyklus von sechs sinfonischen Dichtungen des tschechischen Komponisten Bedřich Smetana, der als vollständiges Werk am 5. November 1882 in Prag uraufgeführt wurde. Smetana komponierte den Zyklus zwischen 1874 und 1879 im Stadium der vollständigen Ertaubung. Die Spieldauer beträgt circa 75 Minuten.

Beňačková specializes in the music of her Slovak compatriots, particularly Eugen Suchoň, as well as Czech composers, notably Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák and Leoš Janáček. She is considered to be one of the greatest 'Jenůfa's' in Janáček's opera of the same name.
