    Gerhard Ludwig Ertl (* 10. Oktober 1936 in Stuttgart) ist ein deutscher Physiker und Oberflächenchemiker, der die Entwicklung des Gebietes der Oberflächenchemie maßgeblich beeinflusst hat. Von 1986 bis 2004 war er Direktor der Abteilung Physikalische Chemie des Fritz-Haber-Institutes in Berlin. Im Jahr 2007 wurde ihm der Nobelpreis für Chemie zuerkannt.
