John Ainsworth Davis/Christopher Creighton in his thinly disguised fictional account The Krushchev Objective (1987) with co-author Noel Hynd, states he was the second diver with Crabb that thwarted an assassination attempt on the Soviet dictator by defusing limpet mines. The "Crabb affair" inspired Ian Fleming's James Bond adventure Thunderball.

Nach Angaben von John Christopher Ainsworth-Davis („Christopher Creighton“) soll Fleming kurz vor Kriegsende auch einen Plan zur Entführung von Martin Bormann entwickelt haben.
