This is an incomplete list of ancient Greek cities, including colonies outside Greece. Note that there were a great many Greek cities in the ancient world. In this list, a city is defined as a single population center. These were often referred to as poleis in the ancient world, although the list is not limited to "proper" poleis. Also excluded from the list are larger units, such as kingdoms or empires.

What is considered "Ancient", what is considered "Greek" and what is considered "a city"? All of these things affect the scope of this list. For example, Knossos was a center of Minoan culture but I am not sure about later Greek inhabitation. Are Minoan centers considered Greek? What about Mycenaean? Mycenae itself was inhabited by a small population at least until the Persian wars. What is the cutoff date for "Ancient"?
