The Otoe (Chiwere: Jiwére) are a Native American people of the Midwestern United States.The Otoe language, Chiwere, is part of the Siouan family, and it is related to that of the Iowa and Missouri tribes. Historically, the Otoe Tribe lived as a semi-nomadic people on the Central Plains along the bank of the Missouri River in Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri.

They often left their villages to hunt buffalo.

The Otoe (or Oto) were a tribe originally living in the meeting point of present day states, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. The Otoe were joined by the Missouria tribe around 1804 due to loss of life from other natives and diseases from the Europeans such as smallpox. The tribe is now located in Red Rock, Oklahoma (“Facts.”).
