    09/09/2020 · The "petty kingdom" thing comes mostly from the 8th and 9th century when there was no unified England, but you had all kinds of small realms like Mercia and Wessex styling themselves as kingdoms. Same thing happened in Ireland. But game design wise these realms aren't really suitable to be represented as actual kingdoms.
