Teseo (in greco antico: Θησεύς, Thēseus; in latino: Thèseus) è un personaggio della mitologia greca e decimo mitologico re di Atene, figlio di Etra ed Egeo, o di Poseidone con cui Etra una notte aveva giaciuto. Il suo nome ha la stessa radice di thesis e tithenai, come Teti (in greco antico: Τηθύς, Tēthýs) , la Dea Creatrice, la quale, racconta Omero , si unì con Oceano per generare tutti gli Dei.
