Was 20th century the worst century in human history?
The optimists among us who believe in the inevitable progress of man, either forget or ignore the fact that the twentieth century was the bloodiest, most destructive century in human history. The century’s two world wars resulted in the deaths of at least 60 million people. The Russian Civil War of 1917-21 killed another 5-6 million.

Why is the 20th century called the 21st century?
and hence as the current century is going to end at 2100 it is called the 21st century. So effectively one could say that this way of referring to a period of time by its end date came to be because we didn't have a numerical way of expressing the starting of time. Subsequently, question is, what major event happened in the 20th century?

What will the 20th century be remembered for?
My guess is that the 20th Century will be remembered for the introduction of a new art form: film. And I suspect that one or two particularly notable film makers will be remembered. I'd guess either Cecile B DeMille (The Ten Commandments, etc) or George Lucas (Star Wars etc). Scientists and Inventors We remember some number of scientists and inventors.
