The 6502 microprocessor first appeared in 1975 and was designed by a small team led by Chuck Peddle for MOS Technology. Back then it was used in video consoles and home computers including the Atari, Apple II, Nintendo Entertainment System, BBC Micro, Commodore VIC20 and 64. At that time it was one of the cheapest on the market.

All of this is coded in C and Objective-C, using a high(ish) level language to create a simulator of a microprocessor running machine code, acting through logic gates and other simulated chips (memory, I/O) to construct 6502-based systems of almost any kind.
