It was developed in England during the first half of the 20th century and was introduced to the public in 1954 by Gerald Gardner, a retired

The history of Wicca documents the rise of the Neopagan religion of Wicca and related witchcraft-based Neopagan religions. Wicca originated in the early twentieth century, when it developed amongst secretive covens in England who were basing their religious beliefs and practices upon what they read of the historical Witch-Cult in the works of such writers as Margaret Murray. It was subsequently popularized in the 1950s by a number of figures, in particular Gerald Gardner, who …

Some time from 1945 to 1949, Gerald Gardner changed, and added content to, the rituals of an earlier group, called the New Forest Coven. In so doing, Gerald Gardner created Wicca. The many elements from the grimoire (old hand-written book) called the Key of Solomon are present in Wicca. Those are also in Gardner's 1949 …

Is Wicca considered as being a witch?
While this is true, we would simply like to clarify that Witchcraft and Wicca, while similar in many respects, are not the same. One can be a Witch, without being a Wiccan, just as a person can be a Christian, without being a Baptist. Wicca is a recognized religion, while Witchcraft itself is not considered a religion, rather a practice.

            Is Wicca different than witchcraft?
Witchcraft has a significant number of faces and thoughts within the practice. For most, the guiding idea is to do what they believe is right and deal with any consequences from it head on. Wicca, in general, is a lot looser regarding a moral governing body than Witchcraft is.

How are Wicca and other religions alike?
Wicca is probably the best known Pagan religion and probably the most misunderstood. Many Wiccans refer to themselves as Witches which has led non-Pagans to equate magick and witchcraft with Wicca, although many other Pagan traditions practice them.
