I'm not sure if defining reset_value as a uint32_t is good practice. Could I do this as a #define.

Hexadecimal 12 is the same value as 18 decimal, so you can just use. blockdata[0] = 18 to assign the desired value. I think what you are looking for is an array of these bytes (or a vector) in the format: std::vector<std::byte> arr; arr.push_back (byte); With this, you can individually add bytes of the number into this vector, allowing the integer to be as large as you want.
